I don't know if you have visited Tardevil at Confessions of a 40-Something Mama Queen, but she has challenged us to boost the economy. The challenge is to shop garage sales, thrift stores, bargains at any store and spend money. Spending money for a bargain is a good thing for everyone. I took her very seriously and spent a better part of a day hunting down the following thrifty purchases. I will have to show you my inspiration for searching out some specific thrifty buys.
This sweet dish was a gift to me with homemade cookies piled on the plate. It is about 7 inches wide. This lovely gift was handmade with a candlestick holder with the plate glued on with a very special bonding glue. Crafty huh? Cost was less than $2.00. I wonder if that boosted the economy. lol
Here are some of my thrifty purchases. Have you guessed what I am going to do? Coming next is the second part of my thrifty search.
I have four of these plates and I am on the search for more candle holders.
I have four of these too.
This plate is cute, I bet it is a kids art work. What a fun dish for a family with children.
Look at what I did in just a little over an hour. My Christmas cookies on those pretty pedestal plates will be a welcome gift. At least I hope so. Here is a tip. Use nothing bigger than small lunch size plates and it is best if they are not real heavy. All this for under $20.00 and that includes the glue. Cost is $2.00 to $3.00 max. Oops, next picture will be the type of glue you must use.
These dishes are not dishwasher safe. We do not want the glue to get real hot. lol
October pink for breast cancer awareness. Don't forget your mammogram please.
INFLATION...In response to his father's lecture on finances, the little boy said,"Of course I know the value of a dollar, Dad. That's why I asked for ten dollars."
Blessings and love...Jeanne

Good job, Jeanne. I feel safer already! It seems to me that you should tell Tardevil to buy big, new, expensive things to get the country's economy going. That's what I'm telling my husband! ;-)

Well, you girls are so clever. I have been doing my share of feeding the economy lately, but it was the retail side. ;-)
Jeanne, where are you storing these until you use them? I love those plates with the berries - so bright and colorful.

Hi Jeanne,
I think your about the craftiest gal in blogland! What a great idea for a gift! Those turned out great.
I have seen her website, and I'm going to go by the thrift store today! LOL
I might even copy you! Thanks for the product recommendation with the glue!

What a great idea! I have several of those candle holders (no telling how many I have donated to thrift stores!)
If you need it to be temporary, you can use a high temp glue gun. Another good glue is Amazing Goop. The smell does not make me as sick. Still need ventilation. And is permanent. Very good with Animal Rocks. I need to do a post about that.

Dear jeanne
Just think you cleaned out a lot of other peoples junk, Oh yes I forgot, a lot of other peoples treasures.smile and yes you are keeping the small business man going. Those would make great Teacher gifts, not the hundred kinds of soap they usually get. When are we making cookies? I can hardly wait.
Much Love Carmen

Hi Jeanne...Fab idea...and I think you found some of the loveliest plates...I might be tempted to keep them as luncheon plates. If you were out thrifting this is a good indication you're doing much better day by day!
Hugs to you, ;-) Bo

Hi Jeanne! WELL, You know I have LONG been a supporter of g. Sales and thrift stores and reusing. I am so glad so many folks are finally getting the bug, too!!! I love your plate stands and I love E-6000!!! Yes, in case you were wondering, I would love a plate full of your Christmas cookies!!!
Have a great and thrift day! L, Dana

What a classy way to present Christmas cookies....you're gonna be a HIT!

Tardevil is very proud of you....that market is correcting already!!! My personal favorites are all those Christmas plates. Would look good on a Tablescape Tuesday post. Thanks for sharing the kind of glue you used. I had a friend that did teacups and saucers for birdfeeders and painted porch posts for the stick that goes into the ground, but I never knew what kind of glue to use.

Right up my alley, Jeanne. I love shopping yard sales, thrift stores, etc. BTW, I have several pieces of those Laura Ashley dishes (blue and white tiny flowers), but mine are in red on tan. I even have a tea pot in that pattern.

Too funny, I just made a chip and dip plate today.....I put a large plate on the bottom, turned the candle stick upside down and put a smaller plate on top.....I can set a bowl or tea cup on the small plate for dip or leave it off for cookies or candy. I can find TONS of those candlesticks at local thrift stores.....
Great blog!!!
