Today is a day to share our thoughts about our faith. Our belief in God is what made our country what it is all about. Freedom of religion. Have you Seen this? I saw it on my Email and I believe we all should fight for our freedom of religion and here is why...
SHALL WE HIRE A MONUMENT ENGRAVER TO GO TO ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY AND ADD THE MISSING WORDS?
THIS IS A MESSAGE FROM AN APPALLED OBSERVER:
Today I went to visit the new World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. I got an unexpected history lesson. Because I'm a baby boomer, I was one of the youngest in the crowd. Most were the age of my parents, Veterans of 'the greatest war,' with their families. It was a beautiful day, and people were smiling and happy to be there. Hundreds of us milled around the memorial, reading the inspiring words of Eisenhower and Truman that are engraved there.
On the Pacific side of the memorial, a group of us gathered to read the words President Roosevelt used to announce the attack on Pearl Harbor:
Yesterday, December 7, 1941-- a date which will live in infamy--the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked.
One elderly woman read the words aloud:
'With confidence in our armed forces, with the abounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph.'
But as she read, she was suddenly turned angry. 'Wait a minute,' she said, 'they left out the end of the quote. They left out the most important part. Roosevelt ended the message with 'so help us God.'
Her husband said, 'You are probably right. We're not supposed to say things like that now.'
'I know I'm right,' she insisted. 'I remember the speech.' The two looked dismayed,
shook their heads sadly and walked away.
Listening to their conversation, I thought to myself, 'Well, it has been over 50 years; she's probably forgotten.'
But she had not forgotten. She was right.
I went home and pulled out the book my book club is reading --- 'Flags of Our Fathers' by James Bradley. It's all about the battle at Iwo Jima.
I haven't gotten too far in the book. It's tough to read because it's a graphic description of the WWII battles in the Pacific.
But right there it was on page 58. Roosevelt 's speech to the nation ends in 'so help us God.'
The people who edited out that part of the speech when they engraved it on the memorial could have fooled me. I was born after the war! But they couldn't fool the people who were there. Roosevelt 's words are engraved on their hearts.
Now I ask: 'WHO GAVE THEM THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE WORDS OF HISTORY?????????'
Send this around to your friends. People need to know before everyone forgets.
People today are trying to change the history of America by leaving God out of it, but the truth is, God has been a part of this nation, since the beginning. He still wants to be....and He always will be!
If you agree, pass this on and God Bless YOU!
Please forgive me if you have already seen this. Charlotte and Ginger, thank you so much for hosting Spiritual Sunday.(Click here)
Blessings, Jeanne

Wow. I have to say, I'm disgusted if this is true. I haven't seen it yet. My grandpa was in the Pacific on PT Boats.
Thank you for stopping by my blog. I have not worked at The Olde Green Cupboard in 3 years since I've been in Tampa. It was the best job I ever had with the best people to work with. I am friends with the owner's daughter and she gave me the job. If you ever visit there and they are not friendly or helpful, find Gloria, Vickie or Heather and tattle. They work very hard on customer service.
I can't believe you live in Franklin. I have fibromyalgia and the only place I don't hurt is Franklin. We took the best vacation we ever had there. A friend had a cabin and we stayed there for free. If we don't move back to Texas, I want to move there.
Oh no...another Gator fan. That is something in Texas, I didn't have the luxury of experiencing. All my Gator friends are crazy. LOL
God bless.

Not surprised at all as history repeats itself. People are turning away from God and it is scary. Thank you for sharing. Blessings.

This country is founded on God and His goodness. It is slipping away. Thanks for sharing.

I sometimes feel devastated at the road my country seems to be taking but I take comfort in the words of our church leaders that we need not fear if we are prepared. Prepared??? Yes! Prepared. I study my scriptures daily, pray unceasingly throughout the day and live my life as God would want me to live (well, to the best of my ability. I am after all "human.") I pray for our leaders to "catch the vision" and become more righteous. I pray for my fellow countrymen and women to become more righteous. But I don't fear for me because I know the ending of The Book! It is in God's hands no matter what. I take comfort in that. I'm prepared.
Lovely post, sugar, and I hope many never forget the wars my father fought in for our safety. Carry on, as the Brits say, sweet chick! I shall.....
xoxo,
Connie

I have long been concerned about how our country is slowly but surely trying to take God out of everything. I did not know about this incident. It makes me furious too. If the far left had its way it would be a crime to even mention the name of God or Jesus. Of course I don't think they would have any problem with Allah or Mohammed. So sad we are headed in this direction and such speed. Christians need to rise up against this trend before it is too late.
Blessings,
Charlotte

I did not know of this but it does so go with everything else that is happening in this country. It is soo frustrating. And soo wrong. They should be shaking in their boots to take God out of everything in this country and yet they cannot seem to do it fast enough. You are soo right. We Christians must continue to fight and battle over this before it is truly too late. Thanks for sharing this. Blessings, Debbie

This article is not true . I checked it out on Snopes here: http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/memorial.asp
The sentence they quoted on the memorial was accuarate.---it was a sentence in his speech and a direct quote. They left nothing out. There was another sentence further down in his speech which talks about so help us God. Go to the link I gave and you can read it. It always pays to check out things at snopes.com

Bless you for this.

I am glad to know that the quotation was not altered in this case.
But, I do find it terribly upsetting that reference to God is considered discriminating to the rights of some. Those that believe in God are the majority, and we should stand up for our beliefs.

Jeanne,
I had someone email this to me several months ago and found out later that only part of the speech was ingraved into the monument...the rest of the speech that contains "so help me God" was left off. Now, that makes me mad that they chose only the part of the speech that would not "offend" anyone! Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Blessings,
Jean

I just read what nannykim said and I'm sure she is right. However, the theme of your post is true. What is happening to our country is terrible. God is being removed wherever and whenever possible and nobody can disprove that!!!! We need to pray about this everyday and speak up when possible. Thank you posting.

We always here about people taking God out of everything, saying they need to stand up for their rights. I never hear of Christians standing up for our rights. Do T.V stations, and newspapers just choose not to share that were fighting for God to be put back in our Country.Or are we just loud enough? I know were out there! Thank-you for this post although it sadden me because I was not aware of this.
God Bless,
Ginger

Our religious freedom is slowly slipping away.
Posted by: Dayle | November 08, 2009 at 06:54 PM
This is so very sad. The founding fathers of our great country based their decisions on religious morals. They knew that God had a plan, that knew that God was important, they feared and loved God. {feared, as in respected}It is my hope and prayer that enough Christains will let their voices be heard as our "elected" representatives make decisions. Thanks for sharing.

It was sad that the WW2 memorial even took so long to be installed. It's an amazing place to visit - one needs quite a while to take it all in, the sculptures and words are breathtaking.
Being British, and having parents and other family members who were in the military during those years (my mum left the Royal Airforce to have me - my dad stayed in until the war was over), stories of the war years and the bravery of people from many countries touch my heart.
I hope so much that the words were quoted correctly!
On another subject, missed you much on Sat. Jeanne - you would have enjoyed it as we had a great time at Rhondi's lovely home.
