BLUE MONDAY AND A VICTORIAN TEA PARTY

Today I am doing two blog events.  Blue Monday with Sally at, Smiling Sally  and Cielo at, The House in the Roses.  Please be sure and visit both blogs for a lovely blogging experience.  Thank you Sally and Cielo for hosting these fun blogging events for us to enjoy.

FIRST THE BLUE

I am sharing some photos of two of my step great grandsons.  My daughter-in-law, their grandma, sends photos to us so we can see the progress in their growth.  We are so sad to just see photos but we are very happy to at least have that.  These little guys live in MI.  They are beautiful little boys and we love them dearly, even if it is long distance.

Thus little guy is the oldest.  I do not want to identify these babies by name for safety. In these two photos he is playing in a plastic bin.  The next photo shows him fast asleep in the bin.  Children love boxes.  Who needs expensive toys?  HA!

WELCOME TO MY TEA PARTY

Which tea do  you prefer?

Come in and enjoy your tea and cookies.  Home made oatmeal raisin.  Mmmmmm.

This cup and saucer was purchased when I was eighteen years old.  I bought a full set of  eight  Place settings plus the platter, vegetable bowl and a gravy boat.  I bought these place settings one at a time and it took many months to complete the set.  They are very fragile and fine.  I had no idea of what fine china was at the time but the name of the pattern was all I needed.  The pattern is 'Springtime', by Hanover China.  The year was 1958.

My choice of tea is Earl Grey

The flowers are Weigela and I picked them from my garden.

I hope you enjoyed the tea party.  There is nothing more lovely, relaxing and romantic than a lovely cup of tea with people you love.

Footnote: Over the years i broke five pieces of my china and needed to replace them.  Three small sauce dishes, a large vegetable bowl and a dessert plate.  I could only find them at Replacements LTD.  The cost was $500.  Needless to say, I was shocked but I did replace the pieces.  Now, I am very careful when I use this  lovely china.  That was about 4 years ago.  How times have changed.

Colt and Riley use to play in a Rubbermaid like that. They would fill it with water in the summer and pretend it was their pool. Cute little boys Jeanne.

Your tea things are just lovely. I could very definitely enjoy having tea with you...but would be terrified of breaking something. With replacement costs like that...Wow!

I have to agree - those boys are just darlings! :-) And how cute is it that slept in that teeny weeny box. Must be real exhausted from the playing.

As to the tea party - they are beautiful and very expensive! With a klutz like me, I'm afraid to pick those china LOL Good thing it's a virtual one :-) The painted teaspoons are just lovely as well.

I know I'm late on this one (since I've been MIA) but I wish the two important boys in your life a Happy, Happy Birthday - to your husband and to Caleb (sounds like he is one amazing boy and no doubt everybody is just proud of him).

Hi Jeanne! Those boys are so precious....love the guy asleep in the plastic bin! Oh, to be able to fall asleep WHERE EVER....those days are long gone!

I LOVE your china and I'm so glad you replaced the pieces. It's gorgeous!! I am lusting for it!! Yeah, I know, I know...."go out and get your own!" :) I love EG tea, too, but I love oatmeal cookies MORE!! Your flowers are the perfect touch!! I forgot to say that I LOVE your flowers....can't use the word LOVE too much! :)

[Victorian Tea Party]

Google books has a large selection of parlor game books and recipe books from Victorian times that are freely viewable as their copyright has expired. Using these as reference it is easy to organize your own Victorian Tea Party. I have hosted a Victorian Tea Party pot look but if you are doing this I would advise not making it too authentic as the Victorians enjoyed such delicacies as beef tongue and pig's trotters!!!
