A DIFFERENT HEN PARTY
My grands were visiting us in February on the weekend of the 11th. They came to see snow, go skiing, and celebrate a birthday. What they didn't expect was a hen party.
My version of a hen party starts here...
My sister has chickens and we have the luxury of fresh eggs everyday. We needed to gather eggs for breakfast so my grands (city kids) decided to visit my sister and see what it is like to gather eggs. This is Carmen, my sister who lives one mile across the mountain from me.
Her chickens absolutely adore her. Whenever she comes near the hen house they all scurry out to say hello. Then she gathers the eggs. Because of the cold weather, the hen house is covered in tarps to keep the cold air out.
Now the fun begans...
These hens are very sweet and have beautiful feathers.
They lay about a dozen a day. The golf balls are a reminder for the hens to lay the eggs. It works!
Our granddaughter Ashley, making friends with the hens.
Cody and Ashley finding out what it is like to hold a chicken. Carmen is instructing them.
Logan is collecting eggs.
Cody looks a bit grossed out. But look at what end of the chicken he is looking at. HA! Ashley and Logan are loving this.
Cody, Ashley, Caleb and Logan having a country good time with something most city kids couldn't have the opportunity to experience. The eggs did make it home even though they definitely were in jeporady from the looks of this photo.
This was a very fun time for all.
THEN WE HAD EGGS FOR BREAKFAST.
*************************
The next two photos are very special.
A small celebration for Logans 14th birthday. His birthday was a few days later but he would be back home in Florida for the big day. We at least had to bake a cake.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOGAN
Logan with his cake and his cousin Caleb. They are best friends.
Cousin Cody watching Logan blowing his candles out. Caleb wants to help and in fact he did. The valentines candy was also given to everyone a bit early. Russel Stover, a big hit.
There is more to this fun weekend but I am saving it for Outdoor Wednesday.
This was also the first weekend following my eye surgery. I rested and my daughters did all the work. Thank goodness I am finally feeling and seeing better. Did you notice I didn't say looking better!!
Any photos of me are banned from the public eye. Smile. Maybe in four to six weeks.
MAYBE!!!
HAPPY BLUE MONDAY
Love always, Jeanne

I can imagine the fun in collecting eggs - quite an experience! I'd love to have hens myself, but it guess it takes a lot of time to care for them.
Thanks for sharing!

What fun! And, Cody's expression is priceless. I wish I had some of Carmen's fresh eggs.
Happy Blue Monday, dear Jeanne. I am soon out the door to work, but for the moment I am watching a pink sunrise out my window.

Ah, Jeannie, you had me laughing out loud this morning as I looked at your picture of Cody's expression! I love to laugh, so thank you for a great start of my Blue Monday.
Happy President's Day to you too!
Happy Blue Monday.

We laughed out loud, too!! I called Sweetpea over and said, "Look at this funny boy with the chicken!" She said, "He's looking at the chicken's bottom!"
That struck us both so funny we laughed, and she got the giggles, and soon we were just throwing our heads back and Hee-Hawing. THANKS for the big laugh this cloudy, cold morning.
I'm already BRIGHT, though, from the company I'm keeping this morning and the pretty things we did to the house yesterday. We've PINKED up the whole place, it seems---garlands on the archway, roses for candle-rings to be made, the big lush pink silk hydrangeas back in their corner of the sunny sitting room.
Lots still to do, but Pink Saturday got us off to a GOOODDD start.
Hope you're soon all WELL. Stay warm!!

Loved your post. I dearly loved to gather the eggs when I was growing up. Some of the good times were really just that.

Happy Blue Monday, Jeanne! happy President's day! My maternal grandmother had chickens and I loved to collect the eggs when we visited her house in Pennsylvania. She use to put an old doorknob in their nest to encourage them to lay an egg :)
Happy birthday to Logan! Your grandchildren are all such wonderful children, and I know how proud you are of all of them!
Hugs, Pat

What fun family memories for you and your family. For me and my family too. It reminded me of my senior mom and dad and their geese, turkeys, and ducks. They followed them around so sweetly as well. Only problem was, they considered themselves watch-fowl - and when people, including ME, would come to visit, they'd just plain attack! Funny now, but back then, oyyyyyyyy. Have a blessed and blue Monday.

Hi Jeanne, I had to comment on this post ! I loved it ! That Cody is a hoot in that picture looking at the chickens behind !
Had a CT scan Mon. Pray that the 2 nodules in my right lung haven't grown. I get the results Tuesday. I will try to post then. Other than that I am feeling really good now.
