OUTDOOR WEDNESDAY - A WOOL FESTIVAL IN MICHIGAN

 I am sharing this post from 2009.  It was a beautiful event and worth repeating.

I am on vacation in Raleigh, NC and for the sake of a time factor problem, I hope you enjoy this post once again.  I sure did. Smile.

Today I am sharing a Wool Festival event I was lucky enough to attend while visiting my aunt and uncle in Michigan. I am warning you now this is a long post but worthy of sharing.  I really only attended the set up day.  My aunt and Uncle, 82 years old, have sold antique buttons at this event for the past ten years.  I was there to help them set up their booth.  I wanna tell ya, it almost killed me!  It was such a hard job. I was the youngster, nearly 70, and they acted like it was nothing.

I was stunned at all the preparations that went into this awesome event.

Uncle Bill, also 82 yrs. young,  standing under a canopy that almost killed us to put up.  Not to mention 8 ft. heavy tables (2) and several small tables as well.  A good 20 boxes of buttons etc. to unload, plus a stool and four chairs.  See that square cement weight to tie down the canopy.  Four of them 50 lbs. each. LOL.

The barn is beautiful too.  The venders are setting up to sell their wares.

Outbuildings.  Check out that beautiful roof and do you see that spider on the right.  It was made out of wood.

 

This is where they served the most delicious food.  The owner of the farm did the cooking. ( the husband was the cook)

I bought one of these swags.  It smells heavenly.

 

 

 

 

 

The sheep getting ready to be shorn.  The covers are to keep the sheep dry and clean.  They cannot be shorn if their coat is wet.  Clean and dry is imperative for the best wool harvest.

 These Alpacas were in the barn.  They were so cute and made little mewing sounds. These animals are sometimes sold as pets.

This is all I can share with you today.  There is soooo much more for sale such as; quilts, crafts, wool garments etc.  As I said, I was only there for set up day.  The show day I was on my way home.  sigh.

Mending Bridges

You know what is so amazing? Mending bridges. Forgiveness. Mending old hurts. Growing up. Relying on the Lord that His plans are the right plans - that who He wants in our lives are who we need.

During high school, I had mostly male friends. I did have a handful of female friends - but mostly male. Fast forward to college - living in an all female dorm. I didn't have much of a choice. (Think: shy girl all on her own in college...easier to make friends where you live than anywhere else!) So, girls I befriended first.

There was a girl who lived next door that I honestly don't remember how we became friends. But, soon we were inseparable. Eight months (or so) later, I started dating someone. That's when the problems started. I can't even explain to you what the issue was - it just wasn't good. At all. We were both so miserable by the end of it. Which was so sad because we are so similar and go along great (up to that point.) Funnily enough, too - before that - I had never had an issues with friends. Oh boy did we have our fair share of issues! Just a mess that spiraled out of control.

The following three years of college, we were cordial. Saw each other now and then. A year and a half after college, both of us were saved at that point, somehow our lives intertwined. One day, God placed on my heart to apologize and forgive...I obeyed. She did the same. Our past hurts were mended. We both grew and learned from them. We are both better people now. 

We are now the kind of friends who can share stories about anything. We can be there for each other, with Christ on our sides. He was missing many years ago. With our growth as woman and our spiritual growth, our friendship is so fantastic! Maybe it helps that we are many states apart? (Just kidding!) Seriously though, both of our lives are now parallel so we can be the kind of friend each of us needs. We can be there for one another in Christ, as well. Which is so precious and rare.

The next time you are fighting - be sure you don't say anything too harsh. Don't say anything that you would feel ashamed to say if you remembered two years later.  
 
I am so thankful to have such a friend as her. I am also so thankful that neither of us ever said anything too crazy so we would have a hard time forgiving one another. I am so thankful that the Lord has brought us together.

Never take for granted the people you have in your life. They are not only there for a reason, but the time they spend with you is so precious. Don't waste it. Don't take it for granted. Be thankful. Treat the friendship with care and respect. And don't forget to tell your friends how much you love them and how thankful you are for them. You never know what the future holds - you never know how long they will be in your life...don't wait until it's too late!

VINTAGE THINGY THURSDAY - ANTIQUE SHELVES AND FIGURINES

A SURPRISE TREASURE

I unpacked some boxes and found these shelves and figuerines that I had forgotten about for about five years.  The figuerines are very special because my mother gave them to me years ago.  There is a story told to me by my now grown children about these two bisque children.  Some horseplay was going in in my absence and one of them was beheaded. I never noticed it because they promptly glued the head back on.  The truth is... I never have examined them closely and I still don;t know which one was beheaded.  I will never look for the repair because I really don't want to see it. Silly huh?  I dislike anything that has been broken so much and  would be very saddened to know which one lost it's head.  I am much happier not knowing. 

The shelves are very sweet and I am glad I never sold them.  I love them on each side of my bedroom mantel.

 

 

 

The chandelier is also vintage.  I love the romantic look in my bedroom.

DO YOU REMEMBER BOLDT CASTLE?

 

Boldt Castle is a 120 room mansion that is located near Alexandria Bay, New York. The castle was designed by the firm of W. D. Hewitt and G.W. Hewitt, Architects, Philadelphia, Pa., who also designed Druim Moir castle in Philadelphia.

Boldt Castle was built at the turn of the century by multi-millionaire George C. Boldt for his wife, Louise, as a testimony of his love for her. Mr.Boldt invested over $2.5 million to build this replica of a Rhineland castle. He planned on presenting it to his wife on Valentine's Day. Work was underway on the eleven buildings that would comprise the castle complex when in January of 1904 Louise Boldt died, ending the dreams of a lifetime. George Boldt ordered that all work be stopped and for 73 years the Castle and the other structures on the island were left to the forces of nature. The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority acquired the property in 1977 and decided to preserve it for the enjoyment of future generations. Since then several million dollars have been spent rehabilitating and restoring the castle and surrounding structures.

VINTAGE THINGY THURSDAY - A MINIATURE BOX

It is a beautiful day in the mountains and it is great to say hello to my blogging friends.  I have not been on my computer much lately because my cousin has been here for the past two weeks. Company again!  No surprise huh? We have had a wonderful visit but our good times end as she leaves this morning for Michigan.

Now, it is back to blogging and visiting again. Yippee! I have missed you.

I have the sweetest little handmade treasure to share with you this morning.  It was especially made for me by my  dear blogging friend Deborah at, Bee Haven.  More gifts from my visit to Canada.  I know, it just doesn't end and you have not seen it all yet! The box is tiny and precious packed full of the cutest things. A lot of time went into this very special gift.  Thank you so much Deborah. 

THE BOX

I love birds and this treasure is birdalischious.  She covered the box with paper and added layers of lovely little things. I adore this Deborah.  There were six of us visiting Claudie at, French Pink Poodles and Pearls and she made a mini box for all of us.

AND...it is filled with tiny things she selected just for our individual personalities.

Green is my favorite color and she gave me a darling pair of vintage ear rings, the key to her heart, a tiny gift bag, and among these tiny gifts is some Smarties candy. Now I can finally eat it! HA! Yes, all of this tiny things fit inside the box. Plus a little saying glued in the bottom "You Make me smile."  You can believe I was smiling BIG!

On the last day we were together before leaving for home, Deborah gave all of us one more special gift.  She chose special gifts from her home and gave each of us a part of her own collection of treasures.  My gift was a green vintage sugar bowl and sugar spoon.

 

 

I have used this already Deborah. Thank you sooooo much.
