We are celebrating Halloween and Fall.  I am sharing some decorations around my home.

These are the new colors for Fall if you are a fashionista

First an outside view as you pull into my driveway.  This was so much fun to do and I love sharing it with you.

The shed needs painting but it will wait until spring.

     The Best Way to Cook Corn on the Cob for a Crowd?
     
     It's Cooler Corn!

  
 


     Am I the only person who hasn't heard of "cooler corn"?

    As an obsessive food nerd, you'd expect that I would have at least heard of it, but over the weekend I was blind-sided by the simple genius of this method for cooking loads of corn on the cob perfectly.

     I was hepped to it while visiting my family in Maine. Short story: We like corn on the cob. And with eight adults at the table, that means a couple of dozen ears. We would have used the lobster pot to cook them all, but the lobster pot was busy steaming lobster.
    
     Then my sister, a capable Maine cook with years of camping experience, says "let's do cooler corn!" Before I can ask "what the hell is cooler corn?" a Coleman cooler appears from the garage, is wiped clean, then filled with the shucked ears. Next, two kettles-full of boiling water are poured over the corn and the top closed.

    Then nothing.

     When we sat down to dinner 30 minutes later and opened it, the corn was perfectly cooked. My mind was blown. And I'm told that the corn will remain at the perfect level of doneness for a couple of hours.

     Turns out, Cooler Corn is pretty well known among the outdoorsy set  But for those of us who avoid tents as  much as possible, it's perfect for large barbecues and way less of mess than grilling. In fact, I may even buy another cooler just so I'm ready for next summer. Now that I'm in the know.

MY PROM DRESS IN 1957

Recently I pulled my prom dress out of my cedar chest to show to my blogging friends when they visited me.  I don't know why I did that but I decided to take a photo to share on my blog. Mostly because it is trimmed in blue and sometimes blue for Sally is a bit hard to find.

I saw it in a large department store and fell in love with the beautiful chantilly lace ruffles. I worked after school at J C Penney's so I put it on layaway.  It was months before the prom but it took that long to pay for it out of my small earnings.  I earned 85 cents an hour back then and was thrilled when I had a raise to 95 cents an hour.  Now you know I am "old" HA!  Back then you could buy a beautiful prom dress for $20. Mine cost $100. I was so proud of myself for buying my own prom dress.  So was my mom. Smile. With five girls to clothe she appreciated my effort to save her some money.

I am 16 in this photo.

Who saves their prom dress?  Me and it is still beautiful fiftyfour years later. However, I am no longer a size 7. HA!

 

Footnote: Both of my younger sisters wore it to their prom and my daughter wore it to a fifty's party  in 1980.

FRIENDS

I must start with my dearest friend Beverly. Thank you for 41 years of an awesome friendship.

She is the reason I Blog at all.

Then comes Pink Saturday and my friendships grew and grew.

Friends are always treasures.  I never dreamed I would make so many new friends just by starting a blog.

One of my friends is Dana at The Stone Rabbit.  We met through blogging in 2008 and then we met in person in May of 2009.

Here we are meeting for the first time.

We felt a mutual friendship from that moment on.

Later in 2009 we met again when we visited my sister-in-law in Kansas City Missouri.

Here we are with some of Dana's friends, my sister-in-law Shirley and Mary Carrol,  the owner of Nell Hill's fabulous store in Kansas City, Kansas

Dana and I share out thoughts and interests through blogging and sometimes a phone call.

Today I am sharing a gift that Dana sent to me recently and this just shows you how much she loves me.  I love you too Dana.

Yes, Pink Hostess cup cakes.  Do you know how rare they are?  If you know Dana, these cupcakes are her treat to: relieve stress, to be good to herself when she needs some love, to make her Stone Rabbit happy, and to share some with me!!!

This is my favorite way to eat my special treat. A cup of tea, my prettiest china and a lovely napkin. Not to mention my favorite cup. I have six of those bird cups.  A gift many years ago from my MIL.

There are many more darling friends in my life since blogging.

I have been in Fairyland for a few days.

BLUE MONDAY - ADVICE TO LIVE BY

An Angel says, 'Never borrow from the future.  If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain.  Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice.'

 

1. Pray
2. Go to bed on time.
3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.
4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

 

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.
6. Simplify and unclutter your life.
7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)
8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

 


9. Pace yourself.  Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.
10. Take one day at a time.
11. Separate worries from concerns.  If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety.  If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.
12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

 


13.. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.
14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut).  This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.
15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

 


16. Carry a spiritually enlightening book with you to read while waiting in line.
17. Get enough rest.
18. Eat right.
19. Get organized so everything has its place.

 

 

20.. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life..
21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.
22. Every day, find time to be alone.
23. Having problems?  Talk to God on the spot.  Try to nip small problems in the bud.  Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.
24. Make friends with Godly people.

 

25.. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.
26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good 'Thank you Jesus'.
27. Laugh.
28. Laugh some more!
29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.
30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).


 

31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).
32. Sit on your ego.
33. Talk less; listen more.
34. Slow down.
35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.
36. Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before.  GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU.
