Today is the day we give thanks for a special reason. My special event was held at my church. We had a
Sadie Hawkins Day
cornbread and chili cook off. You are thinking what is so special about that? Well let me tell you about a wonderful pastor and his wife. They are the heart of our church. It is all about fellowship and love. I am thankful for their leadership.
Now I will tell you a bit about the cook off. Anyone who wanted to join in the cook off could bring chili or cornbread or both. I took both. Dessert was also judged. The young men of our church judged the chili and the members voted for the best cornbread and dessert. I have to tell you how much fun everyone had dressing up like hillbillies for the occasion. A contest was held for the best costume. I am sorry I don't have photos, because it was hilarious. Our pastor and his wife leading the pack as Dolly Partin and a scruffy farmer with dirt on his face and overalls from fixing his tractor. I am thankful to belong to a church whose members love to have fun and fellowship.
My entry for the cornbread recipe was from the Costco Cookbook. This cookbook is a gift from my daughter-in-law.
Check out page 17.
This beautiful girl is my daughter-in-law and her recipe was published in the Costco cookbook. She is married to my son Brett (the Pink Saturday pink shirt guy) Thank you Lori for this great cornbread recipe. Have you guessed it yet? Yep, my cornbread entry won first place.
I WON! This is the tag. Some one has a sense of humor.
There is some fun stuff in this prize starting with an RC Cola and a Moon Pie.
This is all that was left. Three small pieces. Guess what my entry number was. Number 10! Was that an omen? This cornbread is the best of the best. Try it!!
This is all that was left of a huge pot of chili. I didn't win. MY NEPHEW DID. This is a shout out for him. Big smile.
Now, for more Thankful Thursday participants go to our host Rhondi at, Rose Colored Glasses.

Thank you for your cornmeal-less coebrnrad recipe. I made it last night and it was very delicious. I used only 1 egg (added a little reserved canned corn liquid instead). I loved the texture which was lighter than cornmeal coebrnrad. It went very well with my Turkey chili.
