Susan at, A Southern Daydreamer, is out host for Outdoor Wednesday.
Please don't miss out on the great outdoors at Susan's Blog
This a very well attended event.
You're gonna love the things you see.
For those who never saw any of the Burma Shave signs, here is a quick lesson in our history of the 1930's and '40's. Before there were interstates, when everyone drove the old 2 lane roads, Burma Shave signs would be posted all over the countryside in farmers' fields.
They were small red signs with white letters. Five signs,
about 100 feet apart, each containing 1 line of a 4 line couplet......and the obligatory 5th sign advertising Burma Shave, a popular shaving cream.
Here are more of the actual signs:
I hope you enjoyed a bit of the past. Compare this to advertising today.
Happy Outdoor Wednesday
Love, Jeanne
What fun signs! When I grew up we took a summer camping vacation every year and we never ever ever traveled on any interstate. Back two lane roads across eastern America. I have wonderful memories of those vacations.
Hugs,
Penny
p.s. we got 10 inches of snow yesterday....did you get alot?

Hi Jeanne - yes, I remember the great roadside advertising when we traveled the country every Summer in the '60's/'70's. Boy, the motels were so cheap compared to now, the billboards massive, and it was so darned hot without an airconditioned car! We lived up North so no a/c there!
Bet you're snowed in again! We just got a dusting last night and it's just about gone now at 9 AM.
Hope life is treating you well dear. Enjoyed reading your recent meme - you've had a busy and very interesting life.
Warm hugs - Mary

I just love this DRIVE down Memory Lane!
My absolute favorite of all time was quite a clever pun:
If Harmony
Is what you crave
Get a Tuba
Burma Shave

Jeanne, what a great post. I remember those signs. Our drive to my grandparents when I was little was around 3 hrs, they were all along the road. Enjoyed it.

Oh wow... these are great! I remember cans of Burma Shave in the medicine cabinet at our summer cottage, but I don't think I ever actually saw the signs.

What a cute post, Jeanne. I think there was a set of these ads on Hwy 64 (or somewhere) in Oklahoma when I lived there in the 70's. Truly a blast from the past ;)

Jeanne, I don't remember these signs, but I saw lots of South of the Border signs when I was a kid.
