Kelee and Colette...A scene from the video.
Beverly has asked us to participate in Pink Saturday today by sharing a story that was an inspiration because someone cared.
Yes, we were blessed with a miracle many years ago. She is our oldest daughter Andrea who is now 51 years old. She was adorable and always had a mind of her own. I'm not talking about when she was born, Our miracle happened when she was 14 years old.
Getting to know Andrea.
Andrea two years old
Andrea five years old. She loved everyone.
Andrea was pretty close to 14 in this photo
This was the age when Andrea was hit by a car while riding her bike. She was spending the night with her best friend and against her promise to us, that she 'would not' ride her bike at night, she and her friend started out at dusk to get a coke at the store not far away.
Minutes later she was hit by a car that was driven by a 17 year old boy that never saw her. Her friend never even stopped. She rode her bike to several houses before she could get to a phone to call 911. Then she called us. A call we will never forget.
We met the emergency vehicle at the scene of the accident. People were everywhere and all I could do is scream as I saw her laying on the ground. She was saying, "He hit me on purpose." Always the fighter. Smile! We couldn't get near her so we followed the emergency vehicle to the hospital.
Her injuries were terrible and many. Multiple broken bones and a huge open gash on one of her legs. She did not have a head injury, thankfully. She actually died on the table and they had to bring her back. The doctor's said it was a miracle that she lived. He said she was a fighter and it saved her life. She was in the hospital for weeks and came home to her makeover hospital room. She spent months in a body cast and finally a full leg cast. Her recovery was nearly a year. She was home schooled before it was the thing to do. She missed most of her freshman year in high school.
I am not going into the trials and terrible pain she suffered during that time. I was her nurse and had to learn how to take care of her. Did you notice her hair to her waist? Try washing it in a pan of water. She was totally immobile in a body cast. The least of the many problems she went through. We had to call an ambulance to take her to the doctor.
A long story as you can imagine. A few years later she spent her birthday in a hospital in Georgia, miles from home for additional surgery on her knee that did not heel properly from the accident.
The point of all this is what Andrea chose as her lifetime work. She became a nurse. She has done all kinds of nursing but she found that service to desperately ill people was what she wanted to do. Her dedication to this type of nursing is unfailing. She gives her patients who cannot survive, the care and love that they need to have happy days in spite of how ill they are. She is often called in the middle of the night and she is always there when her patients need her. You might say she is still a fighter. She does everything in her power to keep her patients happy and comfortable.
Andrea when she finished nursing school.
I am positive that her patients think of her as their miracle. We know she is ours.

A true miracle and blessing. That would have devastated me. I have a BIG heart and cannot stand to see a child hurt. I enjoyed your story, but not sure if I will be able to read too many of today's Pink features. Too sad.

Good Morning Jeanne Sweetie...
What a beautiful story you have shared for our Miracle Weekend. What a long year that must have been for you. And what a blessing Andrea is today. Doing God's work in helping to heal others in need. It takes a very special person to be a nurse. I am so thrilled that is what she set her site on and went for it.
You write so well, I felt as though I was in the vehicle with you just hurrying through the streets to follow the ambulance as well. Washing her long hair, I know about that, as mine too was long and straight. I remember laying on the kitchen counter and Moma washing mine. It was quite an undertaking.
Please stop by and leave a comment at my blog. All the comments are going to be worth a $1.00 towards another Miracle Makeover. They added my blog to the list as I took the lead when Colette was diagnosed with cancer and asked for cards to be sent to her. She is such a blessing and I love her to pieces. What a journey she has had to take. Her story will bless your heart sweet friend, as yours has blessed me this morning.
I pray you are having a wonderful weekend. Many hugs and so much love, Sherry

What a wonderful story Jeanne. My hubby spent a lot of time in hospitals as a child and that is why he too went into the medical field. I believe they are angels here on earth.

WOW! Jeanne, I thought I knew lots about you, but I didn't know about this!!! What a rough, rough time that was for Andrea and you and Bill.....and the other kids!! I just can not imagine all that you had to do.....and the suffering she endured. As you said, she is your miracle....and through her......she's the miracle to others. What a amazing share, dear one!!!
My sale.....well, the weather was awesome....cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon. My booth was under a lovely shade tree...so it was comfy. There weren't a lot of shoppers. I think it happened cuz the sale was bumped up a month. Anyway, sales weren't a good as last year, but I didn't have a lot of items made. I did sell a few "collected" items.....and met a gal who reads my blog!! She was buying something and saw my business card with The Stone Rabbit on it and said "I read your blog"!! That was fun! Of course, I took a picture of her....for the blog! :)
Gotta get ready for church. Hope you're having a great weekend!!! I'm still tired and my van is still packed....... L, Dana

Oh, Jeanne! What a hard time and what an uplifting story! Your sharing it is a great honor and a blessing, and she's doubly my Hero now---when you first mentioned that she was a hospice nurse, I held her close in my heart, for so is my DDIL, and the ones who cared for Daddy in his last days were just angels on Earth, as well.
Thank you for giving your friends this so-personal glimpse of your family's trials and triumphs.

Jeanne, what a wonderful mom you are and what a fabulous gal Andrea turned into..things happen in our lives for a reason, sometimes we don't know the 'why' until much later.
God bless you both

Dear Sweet sister
This was such a difficult time for all of us. I have never been so fearful for any of our precious children then that night at the hospital. I am so proud of all that Andy has accomplished in her life. We share a love for all that Hospice does for all who are in the last days of life. God Bless you Andrea
Much love Aunt Carmen
