Please visit Spiritual Sunday for more blessings. Thank you Charlotte and Ginger for hosting this special event each Sunday.
Since we are on vacation in Maine, I want to share the most beautiful old church we discovered today.
A lovely old cemetery is right next to the church.
It reminds me of the church where my grandparents were buried in the cemetery nearby. It isn't nearly as grand but the old fashioned way of having a cemetery next to the church just brought back memories of way back when.
These grandparents were my father's parents and they used to come to Florida every winter and spend a month with us. We loved them very much. My grandmother made homemade donuts and I would give about anything to eat one of those donuts again.
First the church
We discovered this church by spotting the steeple way across town. We followed the steeple and it led us to the church. Kind of like a Cracker Barrell sign. Smile!
When we were young, living on a dairy farm in MI, we belonged to the Congretational Church where my parents were married. Many years later, after my parents had passed away, my sister and I visited that church and we met a very old couple that had attended my parent's wedding. They still attended the same old country church. That just made our day and theirs too.
The Cemetery
How would you feel if a cemetery was right next door to your home?
A lovely gate banked by lilacs. The lilacs filled the air with the sweetest small. Lilacs are in bloom everywhere and they were my mother's favorite flower.
I like this scripture that asks us to encourage each other to love one another and to do good works. Most importantly, to meet together in the body of the church.
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Blessings and love,
JEANNE
What a lovely Church and I'm glad it brought back sweet memories for you.

Gorgeous Jeanne, And how fun - I thought you must be on vacation as I read your comment yesterday about the laundry. ;) Bet the weather is delightful! And the photos definitely are. Thank you for these lovely and encouraging Bible verses. I am doing a series on the ten commandments for our children and grandchildren and I used these Scriptures with the 4th commandment of the 10 commandments - Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy. :) Have a blessed Spiritual Sunday and a wonderful rest of your vacation!

Cracker Barrel, lol. I would have followed that sign too : )
I wouldn't mind living next to a grave yard, they sure would be quiet and not loud parties to be had... but it wouldn't bother me I don't think???
Interesting about your parents and I knew from past posts that your mom loved lilacs. Our are in full bloom too right now. They smell divine.
Glad your exploring Maine and having fun Jeanne. My grandma used to make donuts too, I miss sitting on her porch eating as many as she would let me.
We were in Mtl. last night for dinner at Manon's restaurant. It was suppose to rain, but we had a beautiful day and night.
Today is sunny and warm with some clouds. I'll take it.
Must get going here. I slept in till noon. Needed it again. Randy and Colt are having a debate in the background : ( Don't they know it's Sunday? lol.
Saw mom yesterday with Randy. She was crying when we left. I've changed her routine to make things easier, but poor thing she's so confused. And my heart is really heavy... I missed Sister Lolotte's birthday last month. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. I'm not sure what to do about it, but I'll come up with something special. I feel so so bad : (

I wrote about my grandmother this weekend also! In my small hometown, a neighborhood has grown around the cemetery. It's beautiful, and the kids play in it. Love the pic of the church. Blessings from Spiritual Sunday!

Jeanne, this is such a wonderful post. So many of the older churches have a cemet3ry on the property. I can' begin to guess how many we have visited searching for genealogy clues.
And, I love the story of meeting the people that had been at your parents' wedding.
Love to you, dear friend.♥

Hello Jeanne,
The church I attended as a little girl also has a cemetery next to it. Many of my relatives have been laid to rest there including my beloved grandparents. The community has since built a new church but the old church stills stands with the cemetery next to it. My grandmother also made the best donuts and she was the best cook! I make her donuts at Christmastime, a tradtion whch my father and I started together. Since my father passed away, I make them on my own. I would love to be able to make them with my Daddy one more time! Your pictures are wonderful! Thank you for your visit and your prayers. Have a lovely day, my friend.
Blessings,
Sandi

I attended a country church from birth to wedding day. This one reminded me of it. There wasn't a cemetery at the church but on up the hill there was. Our daughter is buried there. Every Sunday someone would pull the rope for the bell to ring and it could be heard all over town. Since then they have installed chimes but I always miss the bell. My parents still attend there. Thanks for bringing back some joyful memories.
Blessings,
Pamela

My father was part of a large family....lots of brothers and sisters. Several are buried at the "old home place" as it's called. Lots of the old historical homes out here in the Virginia countryside where I live, have family cemeteries on the property. :)
