HAPPY 41ST ANNIVERSARY TO MY DEAREST FRIEND AND HER HUBBY
Some of our blogging friends know that we have been friends for almost as many years.
How special is that?
VERY SPECIAL!
DO YOU REMEMBER BOLDT CASTLE?
Boldt Castle is a 120 room mansion that is located near Alexandria Bay, New York. The castle was designed by the firm of W. D. Hewitt and G.W. Hewitt, Architects, Philadelphia, Pa., who also designed Druim Moir castle in Philadelphia.
Boldt Castle was built at the turn of the century by multi-millionaire George C. Boldt for his wife, Louise, as a testimony of his love for her. Mr.Boldt invested over $2.5 million to build this replica of a Rhineland castle. He planned on presenting it to his wife on Valentine's Day. Work was underway on the eleven buildings that would comprise the castle complex when in January of 1904 Louise Boldt died, ending the dreams of a lifetime. George Boldt ordered that all work be stopped and for 73 years the Castle and the other structures on the island were left to the forces of nature. The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority acquired the property in 1977 and decided to preserve it for the enjoyment of future generations. Since then several million dollars have been spent rehabilitating and restoring the castle and surrounding structures.

The ceiling stained glass dome. The heart theme is throughtout the castle and in the gardens.
Mrs Boldt. Everything about the castle and gardens were built for her because ot Mr. Boldt's great love for his wife.

Dishes on display. We Bloggers love our dishes!!!
Even the Island is in the shape of a heart.
A sad love story.
Thank you Claudie at, French Pink Poodles and Pearls, for a fabulous time in Canada and Boldt Castle.
Happy Pink Saturday

HPS Jeanne! I thought of you a while ago when I was "surfing" the channels and saw FLA vs TN! I don't know who won cuz I fell fast asleep! FL was ahead then.
We had a HUGE busy day (weekend) with the 5K! It didn't rain, but it was very cold. The Gr. Kids were darling....the hubby/photographer did a great job watching them and getting action photos of us as we neared and crossed the finish line.
I fixed breakfast food afterwards for us and included my niece and a friend of mine. It was so much fun...but it nearly did me in! :)
My much younger friend (by nearly 20 yrs) and I paced together...this was her first 5K where she ran the entire distance!! She was thrilled and so was I that I was able to keep up with her. Our official time was 33:08.....I had us at 32 something. Whatever, I was happy cuz a chunk of the course was on an incline and it really took the wind out of my sales..it's hard to recover and complete nearly another mile after than. However, we did and it was so fun!
I loved this castle tour!! You guys just crammed so many adventures into your Summer Breeze!!!
Hope you're having fun on this trip...have a safe journey home!!

That's beautiful...and yes, sad! I had the neatest thing happen this morning though because of your post! As I was reading the history you wrote up, I thought to myself that it sounded an awful lot like the story behind our Maryhill Museum here in Eastern Oregon. I went to the website and read about the history of our museum and found that the stories are vaguely similar but not close enough. Now I'm curious to find out why our local legend evolved to sound more like the history of the castle you described?? Anyway, hope you're having a wonderful weekend!
