New York remembers and honors all who died in New York, the heros on the airplane flight 93 and those who died in Washington DC.
The folowing is a recall of the children who were in the classroom with President Bush when he heard the news of 911. they were 7 years old.
Here they are 10 years later.
The woman sitting was there teacher on that fateful day.
Remebering 9/11: Share Your Memories HERE
While the kids were picking up their books to begin reading, "The Pet Goat," Andrew Card, the president's chief of staff, entered the room, walked to the president, and whispered in his ear.
"I made the decision I would pass on two facts, make one editorial comment and do nothing to invite a comment," Card later told ABC News.
"The minute that I saw Andy Card walk into that classroom, lean over and whisper to the president, I knew something was direly wrong," Compton said. "Nobody interrupts the president. Not even in front of a classroom of second graders."
The students, now seniors in high school but just 7 years old at the time, knew then that something had happened. They could see it in the president's face.
"He looked disconcerted, anxious," recalled Lazaro Dubrocq, another former student. "He was looking at the cameras, the walls."
"I remember him being all happy and joyful," said Mariah Williams. "And then his expression changing to very serious. And concerned."
Daniels, the teacher, was also aware of a change in the room. "He left the room. Mentally he was gone."
Just what had Card whispered in the president's ear?
"A second plane hit the second tower. America is under attack."
For approximately seven minutes the president stayed in the classroom while the students proudly read "The Pet Goat" to him. He was later criticized for not leaving immediately, but to the young people in that classroom, he made the right decision.
"I think if he would have panicked that was the tone he was setting for the whole country," said Chantal Guerrero. "If he wanted the country to stay calm, he needed to show that he was calm."

After the president left the room to be briefed and address the nation, Daniels was informed by a member of the Secret Service of the attacks on the World Trade Center. Then she had to explain it to her young students.
"I told them something terrible had happened and President Bush needs to go," she said. "Remember they were in second grade. They were only 7 years old so I wasn't going to give them every piece of information."
This day of terror will always be remembered.
President Bush responded in a manner that we should be proud of on this historical event.
God Bless America
Jeanne
Oh how I remember Jeanne.
Randy and I started reminiscing about it all last night till 2:00 AM. We were in Scottsdale, AZ. I was in bed when my gf called to wake me up. She told me to get up and get the kids from school NOW. After that all went quiet over our heads, meaning no planes were flying NONE. It was a peace that wasn't welcomed.
I can't believe 9/11 is what drove Randy and I back to Canada. We lasted till Jan., packed up the kids, dogs, cats and all our belongings and drove 5 days to the Detroit border, and crossed into Windsor where my mom and all my aunts were waiting for us. What a trip in the middle of winter. Here we are in Plantagenet 10 yrs. later in our peaceful little PINK cottage. Now... life is good. For us anyway.

So sad and poignant.

I always hated how many people belittled Pres. Bush for the manner in which they perceived he was responding to the news of the attack. We certainly had no room to judge why he did what he did as no one I knew was privy to the info he was. Yet, his critics are always there to pick him apart as if they knew the right way to react.....unlike our President.
Chantal summed it up perfectly: "If he wanted the country to stay calm, he needed to show that he was calm."
It is a sad weekend, Jeanne. I pray none of the rumors bear out about attacks on this the 10th anniversary. I also pray for the those who were lost, those who lost loved ones and for our military who have lost so much as they continue the battle against those who want to destroy us and the freedoms of folks in other countries. I also pray for our own citizens who forget that the freedoms they enjoy and often take fore granted came at the great sacrifice from others who stepped up and fought for them.
Have a safe and happy weekend, Jeanne. L, Dana

Im like you and posted about my memories of 911 -- the day where all Americans, if not the world, will not be able to forget where we were.
I am keeping our country always in my prayers and hope that we will stay safe.

I'm hoping everyone recalls that terrible day - and strives even harder to remember all the lives lost and what it did to change this country forever. Now, as we reach 10 years, we again have to be concerned for what could happen, not only tomorrow but every day. Our country is forever threatened, there are terrible people out there who want to take us down, this has not changed and never will as long as evil prevails. Sad, very sad.
Are you still planning a visit here dear? I'm hoping to be in town that week so do let me know so we can get together, perhaps for lunch.
Hugs - Mary

I think George Bush was a great president. He's taken a lot of criticism - but he kept us safe. In my book, he's one of the good guys!

I will never forget.
And, anyone that doesn't love George W. Bush is walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

So well said about President Bush. I really hate it that he was criticised by his actions. He was put in that office at the RIGHT time!!!

It's hard to believe it's ten years later. A lovely tribute. I pray our country's future - the world's future is pink.

Jeanne, Thank you for this post! I am one of the people who supported Pres Bush then and now. I believe then and now, in the face of what he had been told while being in a room of 7 year olds, he made the best possible decision. He displayed calm to our Nation, at a time the "world was falling apart" for so many. This is such a beautiful post and I applaude you for posting!
BTW Sarasota is 45 minutes South of us here. The President was rush to MacDill AFB, 20 minutes from us here, as the safest place was the base. Blessings,
Lynn

Yes, Jeanne, I so remember too. Mr. Precious had left for work and I was talking to my mother on the phone and it flashed on the TV. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I called my husband at work to tell him and then the second plane crashed! Even though I was watching, I couldn't believe it was happening!
Bless you, Dear Jeanne!

Kudos to President Bush. We all need to remember that, while he was our leader, he is also just a man...who else could have maintained such composure under such pressure and responsibility? My heart has been heavy this whole weekend...I've never experienced such grief over 9/11 as I have the past couple days.

Happy Pink Saturday, my dearest friend.
I will never forget the look on the face of President Bush when he was hearing that awful message. He stood by our country with love and dignity during this tragedy.
