This card is for you dear Sally
Thank you Sally for our Blue Monday fun.
MY PROM DRESS IN 1957
Recently I pulled my prom dress out of my cedar chest to show to my blogging friends when they visited me. I don't know why I did that but I decided to take a photo to share on my blog. Mostly because it is trimmed in blue and sometimes blue for Sally is a bit hard to find.
I saw it in a large department store and fell in love with the beautiful chantilly lace ruffles. I worked after school at J C Penney's so I put it on layaway. It was months before the prom but it took that long to pay for it out of my small earnings. I earned 85 cents an hour back then and was thrilled when I had a raise to 95 cents an hour. Now you know I am "old" HA! Back then you could buy a beautiful prom dress for $20. Mine cost $100. I was so proud of myself for buying my own prom dress. So was my mom. Smile. With five girls to clothe she appreciated my effort to save her some money.
Are you ready....
I am 16 in this photo.
Who saves their prom dress? Me and it is still beautiful fiftyfour years later. However, I am no longer a size 7. HA!
Footnote: Both of my younger sisters wore it to their prom and my daughter wore it to a fifty's party in 1980.
Happy Blue Monday,
Love,
JEANNE
This procelain rose belonged to my mother. She passed away because she had cancer.

I didn't go to my prom but went with a neighbor boy to his when I was 20. He got a bit rude telling everybody how old I was and implying he may have gotten luckier than them. I called a cab and left him there....lol....It is still a beautiful dress. Have a great week.

Jeanne, I am so glad you shared this sweet memory. Your prom dress is absolutely exquisite. And, I like it that others had the privilege of wearing it, too.
Love to you, dear friend. Tell the elk I said hello.

So glad you saved some sweet memories. My first prom dress looked much like but was lilac. I wore huge feather earrings I wouldn't even think of today. Love the sweet rose for your mother I lost my in August to cancer.

I had a prom dress, but guess back then I did not care to keep it. It definitely was nothing compared to yours. I think it is nice when different generations share things. Take care and stay home and rest.

Thanks for that card, Jeanne. I appreciate it.
What a sweet prom dress, with the PERFECT touch of blue! Thanks for sharing your blues.
Happy Blue Monday, Jeanne.

And I was there to witness this beautiful prom dress wasn't I Jeanne? CC was adamant about taking "just the right pictures".
I didn't tell you, but I never had a Prom. Nope, they decided not to have proms anymore at our high school. Maybe one day I'll be able to wear a Prom dress to a "grand celebration". Hey, maybe for my 25th Wedding Anniversary, yes that's what I can do. I have 2 yrs. to find one. That's a plan.
Happy Blue Monday my dear friend. Today the sun is shining. It's the start of a new week. Just think tomorrow marks a week that I left you ; (
CC just invited all of us to her place next year if we want to all get together. She will be financially strapped to fly anywhere, but she has opened her home to her SISTAS. She suggested some really cool places to go ; )
You just never know where life leads you right Jeanne?

Jeanne, I saved mine for a long time, but I'm not sure I still have it. But I'm glad you kept yours, and what a beautiful story to go with it.
Sending you hugs. My life has taken on a different slant of late, but I'm adjusting with the Lord's help.
XO,
Sheila

Love your dress and your story, Jeanne. I can't believe all of the details you remember!!! OMG..I don't have a clue as to what I made per hr. at my first job when I was 16. I do recall my mom and I made my Sr. Prom dress. . . I don't remember what my Jr. Prom dress looked like....but I'm sure we made it. The only formal I had that was "store bought" was for homecoming my sr. yr. I was the Queen! :) I do recall what it looked like and where we bought it. It was pink with lots of ruffles. Years later, my mom sold it in a g. sale....our neighbor bought it and made bathroom curtains out of it! How I wish I had it now. . . what a shame it ended up like that.
Hope you're having a great Monday. . . I'm still exhausted from my three days with the little grands. . . . I can't imagine taking care of three of them at the same time. Guess I'll get used to it pretty soon, huh?

So pretty! We can definitely see how the old styles are coming back. That's a cute formal cocktail dress.
I never even went to my prom, but I regret not going.
