Please visit Sally at Smiling Sally for Blue Monday. If you are in love with the color blue, don't miss a visit to Sally's blog today.
Thank you Sally for our Blue Monday fun.
WE ARE GOING ON A WELL NEEDED VACATION
It will be a bit of a bloggy break but I will post when I can.
First we are heading to Kansas City, Missouri. The 'City of Fountains' and My sister-in-laws lovely home. I will also be visiting a dear blogging friend. More about this in a later post.
Kansas City traces its beginnings to 1821, the year Missouri was admitted to the Union.
In that year a Frenchman from St. Louis, Francois Chouteau, came up the Missouri River and established a trading post on the waterway about three miles below the great bend in the river, now the Northeast Industrial District. After being flooded out in 1826, he rebuilt on higher ground at the foot of what is now Troost Avenue. Chouteau and several other French families who joined him constituted the first non-Indian settlement in Kansas City.
After a week in kansas City MO, we will be heading to Houston, Texas to visit our grandson and his wife. They moved there in January 2012. We have to give them some grandparent's love. Smile!
The beautiful Houston Skyline
- Houston was founded on August 30, 1836 by brothers Augustus Chapman Allen and John Kirby Allen on land near the banks of Buffalo Bayou.
- Houston is the fourth most populous city in the nation (trailing only New York, Los Angeles and Chicago), and is the largest in the southern U.S. and Texas.
Then on to Galveston, Texas to visit another dear blogging friend. A post on this will be another day. I wish it was possible to visit many more of my dear Texas blogging friends. Texas is a HUGE state and we are limited in our time there.
Galveston is part Southern, part Texan, abloom with towering oleanders of every color and has more history and stories than cities 20 times its size. Part of what is entrancing about Galveston is that it is so much a town in its own right, and it always has been. Even today, many residents refer to is as “The Republic of Galveston Island” because it is so unlike the rest of Texas.
We can't wait to visit this awesome part of Texas.
Then home again to our beautiful mountains in Western, NC. One of the best vacation spots in the US.
We are so blessed.
I will miss you all.
Love,
JEANNE
Oh Jeanne, have a wonderful time! If that friend in Galveston happens to be Shelia, can you give her a special "hug" from me??

Enjoy your trip! I'm in Texas, though not in Houston, and have gone to Galveston several times. It's really beautiful there -- I love the beach houses!

Hi Jeanne *hugs*
have an awesome vacation visiting family and blogging friends. I did see on Facebook that you got to your first stop very quickly. Safe driving and have so very much fun!! Wouldn't it be neat to visit more blogging friends but you would need an awful lot of time to visit everyone...but it would be fun.
can't wait to hear about your trip.
