BEVERLY'S WISH LIST
Yep, Beverly has a conch shell on her wish list. If I had only known, I had the perfect opportunity to get her one for a mere $5.00. When we were in the Bahamas on our Disney cruise in November I bought myself a beautiful conch shell for $5.00. These conch shells sell for a whole lot more then that believe me. I am planning to put a plant in it for our annual flower show in 2014 with my garden club. It will be very different and hopefully a ribbon winner. Otherwise, I might be willing to give it to my dearest friend of 43 years. Just... not yet. Keep your hopes up Beverly. BIG smile here.
I haven't cleaned it up yet but I think it is beautiful. The Bahamian guy who had these shells dives 40 feet to the bottom of the sea to retrieve these shells without an air tank. He said he has done this since he was a child with his father. I would guess he was in his 50's. He does this for the living conch which he harvests and sells to a restraurant for good money. To him the shell is a by product which he sells for very little money.
This is where I purchased the conch shell. The guy in the boat would not look at the camera. He said it will take his soul. He did give me permission to take the photo though.
We spent a long time in the Straw Market. I bought a couple of things I will share another time.
These conch shells were $10. in the Straw Market. I'm glad I bought mine on the dock.

I used to have one similar to this, but what happened to it do not know. They are very pretty. Anything you can buy ot the beach is cheaper than any shop.

What a fun post for Pink Saturday...like it's cold here in Texas and you are warming it up with your summer shots of the Bahamas and Sea Shells. How interesting about the camera shy diver. I have a huge clam shell bought in Cancun many years ago....it too would make a neat planter...thanks for the idea. Happy Pink Saturday and New Year.
