SAVING MEMORIES
I do have a few memories of Grandmother Sylva. I was named after her but my first name is not Jeanne. You might guess...my first name is Sylva. Mostly my memories are about the beautiful Victorian home, where my grandparents lived after retiring. She always had the most delicious apples in a big brass bowl on the floor in her kitchen. I looked forward to eating those apples. I had to ask permission though. I remember her hair. When she sat in a chair to have her hair brushed, it touched the floor. It was braided and wound around her head. I saw a picture of her once that showed her hair flowing down her back and she had a full skirt that she was holding out like a circle skirt only long to the floor. She was laughing and beautiful. She made the best rice pudding I have ever eaten. My mother loved her dearly and so did I.
I think she is pretty, especially her eyes, Her hair was a deep brown and her eyes were blue.
What I am sharing next is something my grandmother made.
"The putty jar"
This fabulous treasure is over 100 years old. My maternal grandmother saved every little thingshe found or collected and made this jar. There is a love letter from my grandfather in a tiny container, pictures of some of her 10 children. Crazy little things, that the close up photos will show.
This jar is a kind of story in itself.
Now for the closeups.
This treasure is at my sister's home in a place of honor by her fireplace.
You could study this putty jar for hours and you would never see all of the detail.
Happy Pink Saturday
Blessings and love,
JEANNE
Thanks for the detail you showed in your pictures, and what fun to have these treasures, Brenda. I agree, she is lovely, and don't you just adore those old pictures? Have a great weekend.

OH, My. Treasure upon treasure, and the greatest is your memory of such a kind, beautiful woman.
You know, I think some of the most powerful memories are of sharing a taste of something with someone who means so much to us---perhaps they were ordinary apples, or a different kind from time to time, but just the fact of their being offered by HER imbued them with such an aura of deliciousness every time.
We are both quite lucky in the Grandmothers we were dealt, I think. My Mammaw is the best and and most lasting memory of my growing-up years, and I credit that plain, plain-spoken country woman with much of my abilities and knowledge.
Hope all is well with you and yours!

Now that is what I call a real treasure. So many long gone loves stored on jar of memories. If only it could talk.

Jeanne, Have you shared that awesome jar before? It looks sorta familiar! If not, then all I have to say is AMAZING!! I think that is the most beautiful, sweet, touching item I've seen in ages!!! What a treasure for you and your family to have. . .and to pass down to generations to come!!!
I hope you are enjoying some "down time" now...or will be pretty soon!! It's cold in KC this morning. My running buds are OUT OF TOWN and I am scheduled for one last "long run" before the half in April. SO, tomorrow morning, I'm going solo for as long as I can stand it! I'm so spoiled having my friends to push/pull each other along. I'm hitting a trail near by that is very public, so I'm not worried to be by myself...plus there's a bathroom there ! haha! Those long runs require that some times!! Tomorrow is supposed to be nice, temp wise. I think there's a tiny chance of rain....which will sorta ruin my run if that happens cuz I ain't gonna do it in the rain! :)
Off to look for birthday treasures for Bonnie. We are celebrating in a few days, as her schedule and mine weren't too compatable this year to do it close to her BD.
Hope you have a great PS and are having a awesome spring weather!!

I love this! And, I definitely do remember it. It is one of the coolest treasures ever.
You know, I think I see a bit of resemblance between you and our grandmother. Around the eyes.
