A Wondrous Diversity of Life
Ridge upon ridge of forest straddles the border between North Carolina and Tennessee in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. World renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, this is America's most visited national park.
SUNDAY IN THE PARK
We still have company since June. A variety of family and friends. It has been the busiest summer ever. Nonstop fun and lots of loving people to share our home in the Smokey Mountains.
Tomorrow the last of our company leaves for home and we will have our life back to normal. Which I have to say, is not a quiet life and that is the way we like to live here in the beautiful mountains of Western Carolina.
Now for a few pics of the day in the park.
First my husband in the blue shirt with just one crutch after his hip replacement. He is with his childhood friend Rick who is taking some photos of the beautiful park.
The mountain streams are so so calming and pretty.
The Smokey Mountains living up to their reputation and are smokey in the background.
I found some flowers to share. There were lots of yellow flowers in the park this time of the year.
A mountain path to somewhere. We were not hiking because of Bill still on a crutch.
Bill waving hello. We were at Clingman's Dome the highest point in the park.
This photo is from Google.
At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is Great Smoky Mountains National Park's highest point. It is the highest point in Tennessee, and the second highest point east of the Mississippi. Only North Carolina's Mt. Mitchell (6,684 feet) rises higher.
Clingmans Dome is a popular Park destination. Located along the state-line ridge, it is half in North Carolina and half in Tennessee. The peak is accessible after driving Clingmans Dome Road from Newfound Gap, and then walking a steep half-mile trail. A paved trail leads to a 54-foot observation tower. The Appalachian Trail crosses Clingmans Dome, marking the highest point along its 2,144 mile journey.
We have climbed to Clingman's Dome but not today.
There is much to do and see in this wonderful National Park.
We live a bit over an hour away.
Come and visit sometime.
Happy blue Monday
Blessings and love,
JEANNE
How I'd LOVE to!! Your company has been quite numerous this Summer---we've had only a few. Sis just went home yesterday after a whirlwind of a week---didn't GO much, but had such a rollicking, laughing, cooking good time. She's just the liveliest, wittiest company, and we're all recuperating from all the laughing.
And how I'd love to be standing on that observation tower! I remember "seeing seven states" on our Summer trips to Rock City, even venturing over into Asheville once, and I was all agog that I felt I'd traveled to every one of them.
Glad you had such a lively "together" Summer---you just drink in that Family time, and are certainly the most prolific and wonderful hostess I know personally. Wow.
love and GET SOME REST!

It's been 30 years almost since my only visit to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. It's a vacation I will never forget. Thanks for the memories! Happy Blue Monday!

Brings back memories. We were there about 15 years ago or so when the kiddos were little. We saw a big black bear
with two cubs! Have a great week ;)
