We visited this garden this summer while vacationing with my sister and niece in Michigan.  There was so much to see that I would like to share but the following pics are a few of my favorites.

MY POST TODAY IS CELEBRATING THE FOOTBALL TEAM...THE WASHINGTON SEA HAWKS.

They are not my team but my granddaughter Beth is a big fan.

She received a special gift from her Auntie Linda for her birthday last week.

See for yourself.

 

Auntie Linda made this cape for her so she could wear it to her first game.  The Sea Hawks won so Beth had a great time in her new cape. This background is Washington State where Beth lives.  Her dog even got in the picture.

I have to share the photo Beth has on her 'Facebook Header Page'  It is stunning. Good one Beth.

A FEW PHOTOS FROM MY GARDEN CLUB ANNUAL FLOWER SHOW.

Our flower show is held at the Macon County State Fair.  The entries are from our town/county residents and also from our garden club members.  This year my entries were in two divisions and I was thrilled to win a blue ribbon (first place)  and a red ribbon (second place).    We have over 100 entries and several divisions so I couldn't share everything.  I hope you enjoy the photos I am sharing.

 

This photo shares some of the entries in our show.  Just beautiful! I think you will agree.

 

This is my dish garden entry.  There were eight entries in this division.  I was very happy to win 2nd place, My inspiration was the mini lawn chair.  The doll was from my doll house and the blue birds I purchased at Goodwill.  The blue stones represents a stream.  The plants are hens and chicks, other succulents and the tall plant is a cactus..  I had a little poodle and a fairy as well.

This is my cut flower entry.  Pink Sedum, greenery and vinca hanging down on the sides.  This is my blue ribbon winner.  Needless to say I was very happy.

Now for some other gorgeous entries.

 

Both of these plants won a ribbon.  No surprise, they are beautiful.

 

This is a dried flower arranged and it won a blue ribbon as well.  Our garden club president arranged this lovely work of art.

This is Best of Show for a single flower entry.  Beautiful!  This is a cockscomb and it is huge.

 

So many lovely entries.

 

I can't decide which I love the best.  You can see why the judge had a hard time picking winners from these many arrangements.  And there were so many more that I haven't shared.  My post is already heavy on photos.

A PINK BOUQUET

I won a blue ribbon and it was such a surprise. (The ribbon wasn't awarded yet in this photo)

This bouquet was made by me from a pink sedum plant in my yard. I entered it in my garden club annual flower show at the County Fair.  Beverly, do you recognize the vase?  BIG SMILE HERE.  For lots more photos of the flower show visit my Blue Monday post.  We are traveling to visit our son in Raleigh, NC and to enter the State Senior Games competition in bowling.

HMMMMMMM, WHAT SHALL I SHARE TODAY?

I received an email from my sister that had the most interesting orchids one has ever seen.

They all have two things in common.

1. They are beautiful and very unusual.
2. The remind us of something human.

Last, I do not know where they can be found.  I would guess in the jungles of South America or other  countries in the world. 

The first ones look like ducks.  I will tell you, it is the only bit of blue you will see.

 

 

This orchid looks like little people.

 

 

This orchid is one for you to figure out.

 

 

Monkey face comes to my mind with this orchid.

 

 

What a cute little tiger face.

 

 

What do you think?  They look like babies in a blanket to me.

 FIFTEENTH YEAR SINCE 9/11

I am sharing this 15th anniversary on Blue Monday even though it is a day later. It is definitely a "BLUE MONDAY" in a literal sense of the words.  Words alone cannot describe this sad day in the USA.

After fifteen years, The attacks on September 11, 2001, are still fresh in the minds of many Americans

 

 

 

NYC today where a beautiful park has been built in the place where the towers once stood.

 

A lovely place where families can visit and remember their loved ones whose lives

were lost on that tragic day.

OH YEAH, THE FIRST GATOR GAME

We have been going to the Gator games for over 25 years.  We purchased season tickets when three of our children graduated from The University of Florida. Two of our Gator daughters and their husbands purchased tickets with us.  The six of us sit together and love the games that bring us together every Fall.

I am sharing a few photos from the first game day of the year.  We sat in pouring rain the first half of the game and since they won the game it was worth it all. I have to add that we have to park 1.25 miles from the stadium.  We walk to and from the stadium and it gets harder the older we get but as long as we are able...GO GATORS.

My husband stretching before the game.  He will be 80 his next birthday and he likes to be fit. 

That gator statue looks like it will do the 'Gator Chomp' on his head.

 

We were there.

WINDOW SHOPPING

When I was on vacation recently on Lake Michigan, we did lots of window shopping.  The coastal towns of South Haven and Grand Haven gave me lots of time to take photos of things that were of interest to me. Especially anything that was blue.  I am sharing a few of the windows that got my attention as well as a cute shop along the way.

We happened to be in Grand Haven when the annual 'Michigan Coast Guard Festival' was in full swing.  I am certain that many of the window displays honored this celebration.

Of course everything is very nautical.

 

Window boxes of flowers were so pretty all over town.

 

This glass candy looked good enough to eat.  Notice the little glass duck on the left looking like he wants a drink.

 

Loved this sign.

 

This store was adorable inside and out.

 

This last photo is for Linda Kay because she loves lighthouses.  So do I.

 

We walked on this pier several times while we were in South Haven docked and sleeping on our niece and nephew-in-law's 40 foot gorgeous boat.  The lighthouse was in sight of where we docked for four days. This lighthouse was lit in 1872 and is still operational. It is built of iron.

MORE OF CHIHULY'S ART PIECES

GIFT SHOP MEIJER GARDENS GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN

I am sharing some Chihuly art pieces that were beautiful and for sale in the gift shop. The prices varied from $3,500 up to $6,000.  I have wondered how many were sold at those high prices.

The photos are not great because I photographed them through glass.
